While many Ohioans hope the weather is warming up, about 900 families across the state said this weather is perfect.
That's because they produce nearly 100,000 gallons of maple syrup each year and Rich Berg said they're right in the middle of their busy season.
"The trees will start running typically when you get into the 30s or 40s," Berg said. "Above freezing in the day, 30s and 40s and sunny, and then at night it goes below freezing."
That weather pattern usually starts in March.
Rich Berg and his family have owned property in Negley since 1993, but just last year they literally started tapping into the business of maple syrup.
"It's like a labor of love," Berg said. "We get my sister, my brother-in-law, my mom and dad are here today."
Last year they tapped about 80 trees. This year they doubled that number, but if you add in all of our snow, they also doubled the time they invested.
The Bergs said they hope to collect 2,000 gallons of sap this year and continue growing their operation in years to come.
