February's full moon reminds us that winter is hardly over.
According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the Native Americans named it a "snow" moon because tribes in the northern and eastern United States had to survive some of winter's heaviest snow.
It also is referred to as the full "hunger" moon because the harsh weather conditions made it difficult to hunt for fresh food.
February's full moon rises at 4:56 p.m. on Tuesday, the 7th.
