As the snow melts, it's a good time to clear it away from the bushes and shrubs around your house.

The snow is heavy and can bend or break the shrubs.

Experts say if you can, brush the snow off the plants gently so you don't break them.

Even so, some plant and garden experts say there are some benefits.

"You know, the snow isn't all a bad thing," said horticulture expert Lynn Zocolo. "I mean, it is protecting our plant. It is the roots of the plant. It insulates them from the fluctuating temperatures and such, so it's not a bad thing, but we want to take care of it."

Housing experts also say melting snow on your roof could cause major problems. And ice build-up on your gutters could eventually lead to flooding in your basement if the water has nowhere else to go.
