January 2012 ended with people saying "what happened to winter?"
Compared to last year's snowiest winter season ever, this season has been mild. Last year, December and January combined left us with over 80 inches of snow. January of 2011 had 30.5 inches of snow, but January 2012 was not far behind with 26.2".
While January 2012 enters the record books as the 8th snowiest January, it came up short for the wettest. January 1998 was the 10th wettest at 4.88 inches. January 2012 stalled at 4.51 inches. Although we have had mild temperatures, the temperatures were not warm enough to launch us into the warmest Januaries.
