The Mars/Moon hoax started during the Summer of 2003 and it continues because of the internet.
The current story says Mars will appear as large as the Moon on August 27. According to earthsky.org, "Mars can never appear as large as a full moon as seen from Earth, and Mars will not even be at its brightest in August 2010."
When you look to the sky with the clear weather we are going to have through the weekend you will see a planet near the Moon. The brightest planet is Jupiter which appears like a bright star.
