As we drift into the winter season, we also notice how short the days become and how quick the sun sets during the late afternoon/evening.
Here is some good news for those who may like the longer evenings. On December 15, the afternoons will get longer by 1 minute. The sunset will be at 4:55 p.m. in the Youngstown, Ohio region. Each day through June will bring a little more in the way of sunlight during the afternoon hours. It is the turning point of the year for afternoon daylight.
This should not be confused with the Winter Solstice as that is near the 21st of December. That is the shortest day of the year. We have to remember that even though the afternoons will start getting longer, the mornings continue to grow longer at the same time. They do not reverse until January 9 when the sunrise goes back to 7:48 a.m.
