When heavy snow started falling Sunday evening, our photographer TJ Renninger bravely ventured into the cold to capture the white-out on camera.
While braving wind gusts that approached 40 mph and becoming covered in snow, he continued filming video in what one may describe as a snow-globe. MyValleyWeather.com's Kirstie Zontini and Ryan Halicki were nearby observing the snow when a rare phenomenon occurred.
There was a flash of lightning, a moment of asking the question "Was that lightning?" followed by the loud, crackling thunder. At the same moment, Renninger had just lined up a camera shot of a car with snow piling up on it. He pressed record at the right moment to document the rare event, thundersnow!
The video begins with the shot of the car, followed by the flash of lightning, and then the thunder. Listen close and you can also hear Halicki and Zontini who were very excited to witness a rare thundersnow.
